A few weeks ago, I decided my spare change jar had gotten full enough to harvest. Margaret and I lugged the thing over to Stop and Shop and spent some quality time dumping the thing into coin star. This was my first time ever using coin star and I thought it was pretty fun. I especially like how they tell you exactly how many of each coin type you dumped in (i'm easy to please)!
I tried to take all the quarters out of the jar and in the end less than 20 quarters were counted. After all the change had been tallied, I ended up with $147! For the record, Margaret sadly underestimated my collection, taking the under on $50.
I was drinking a coke the other day, and decided to browse to the url they had printed on the can - www.mycokerewards.com. I was somewhat impressed with the rewards you could get. 4 16oz bottles = 1 free 2 liter, 7 bottles = free blockbuster rental
At first I was thinking, "This is super easy. I'll just take the bottles people drink at work and get free movies and stuff. Maybe I'll even save up for the addidas bag!". Then reality set in, and I was like, "There's no way i'm doing this".
I think if I was a kid though, I'd be all over collecting coke points. When I was growing up we collected old beer cans from the woods and recylced them for money. There were no .05 refund per can either. We got paid by the pound. I vaguely remember hauling in trash bags full of old crushed beer cans and getting paid like $10. I remember just taking them into the grocery store, but i'll have to ask my parents about that because it seems so weird to me now.
My main point is.. kids love that kind of thing. So if you have any kids, I'd recommend putting them to work collecting coke reward points.
