Long Trip Home

I lost my wallet during the week of the DNC (July 26-29) this summer. As is frequently the case when you lose things, it was somewhat unclear as to exactly where I lost my wallet. The most likely scenarios were: a)in the bar or b)somewhere between the bar and getting out of the cab. New light was shed on the case, yesterday afternoon at work, when I received a phone call. A woman told me that her son had spotted my wallet in a cab! There was no money in the wallet, but she would be willing to mail it to me.

The new mystery is this. How did my wallet manage to stay hidden in the cab for 7 months?!?! My theory is that someone found my wallet early on, took all the money, then threw it under the seat as far as they could. The woman's son might have been crawling around on the floor, which is why he saw the wallet that no one else had seen for 7 months.

What do we learn from this story? Crawl around on the floors of cabs and you'll find all kinds of stuff? Cabs aren't cleaned all that often (suspected this before)? Be careful with your wallet while you're drunk in a cab? Never ever give up on finding something you've lost? All I know for sure, is that i'll soon feel the familiar lump of my old trusty wallet, pressing gently against my ass. I'm so proud that my wallet survived for 7 months in a cab, without food or water, refusing to give up until it found it's way home.
