My trip home from Va to Boston yesterday was a bit of an ordeal. There was the normal holiday delay, that caused the 4:30 flight to actually take off at about 6:00, but then things got interesting. After we had been flying for quite a while the pilot comes on and says that we're having some mechanical difficulties with the plane and he can't put down the flaps.

The flaps help slow down the plane when you're landing and he assured us that we were in no danger, but that we would be landing at a higher speed than normal. Just to be on the safe side they decided to land us at JFK in New York, since it has the longest runway around. Now when we touched down I could really tell that we were going faster than normal. You could feel the brakes kick in a little harder but other than that things were smooth. As I looked out the window I could see a bunch of fire trucks and ambulences with their lights on. Not sure if they were there for us or not, but it makes you think.

They had another plane waiting for us, so we switched planes and then headed back to Boston. That whole landing thing probably added 2 hours and I didn't make it home till around 12:30 am, but I was happy to be in one piece!
