You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go

I was just reading a post that ahren wrote about Blood on the Tracks, and that got me to looking through some of the lyrics on that album. I was reading through the lyrics to a song called You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go. This a happy, upbeat, bouncy song about this guy who is really in love with a girl except despite the fact that things seem great he knows and keeps repeating "You're gonna make me lonesome when you go". For whatever reason the poor guy doesn't seem to think he has a chance of finding a love that will last and just submits the fact that, she's gonna go.

So if you are familiar with the song there's a line in there that you probably don't quite understand and just mumble over when you're singing along... you know:

Situations have ended sad,
Relationships have all been bad.
Mine've been like Verlaine's and Rimbaud
So I looked up what that was all about. Turns out Verlaine is a 19th century French poet.. yada yada
He received a letter from an unknown teenage poet named Rimbaud in 1871. Verlaine recognized Rimbaud's poetic talent and despite the fact that he was apparently heterosexual (or at least had been up to this time) fell madly in love with him. The two poets travelled together for a short time, and Verlaine helped Rimbaud become a literary celebrity in Paris. But when it became clear that Rimbaud was going to move on and leave Verlaine behind, the older poet could not stand the loss. A series of bitter fights ensued, and Verlaine ended up firing a gun at Rimbaud, injuring his wrist. Rimbaud pressed charges, sending Verlaine to prison for two years, before fleeing the world of literary fame in disgust.

Oh.. and Ashtabula is a town in Ohio.

Successful Advertising

You know that commercial for Microsoft Office where they come in and dump a water cooler over some cubicle worker's head? It's all in slow motion and stuff, so you can really see the water splashing around. Then he jumps on some guy's back and starts whoopin' it up. Man, that's funny. I'm seriously considering starting to use Microsoft Office now.

Also the commercial for the new 20's? That's not bad; I think I might try out a few of those new 20's. Oh and milk! You know those milk ads where they get the celebrities to put on milk moustaches? I might get some milk to put on my cereal or something.

Round and Round it Goes

I walked out of my room this morning and found Ash chasing her tail around in circles. It was funny caus as soon as I looked at her she kind of stopped and looked back as if to say, "yeah.. I'm chasing my tail.. you got a problem with that?" Then the chasing resumed.
