Candy Corn
One of my favorite Halloween candies is the oldie but goodie, candy corn. Whether you eat your candy corn in the traditional 3 bite top to bottom pattern, work from the bottom up, or chomp the whole thing at once, you are definately in for a tasty treat! After enjoying some candy corn yesterday I thought to myself, "Corn is good, but CANDY corn is great". Now here's the thing... corn, in my estimation, is a vegetable; and candy corn is the only vegetable based candy I can think of. Just about every fruit out there has been turned into candy, but the vegetable family seems to be largely untapped. This is not surprising as, let's be honest, most vegetables don't taste that great. I mean if you load them up with butter and sugar then they can taste pretty good, but what doesn't taste good loaded up with butter and sugar? Still I see no reason why a candy version of a vegetable couldn't taste much better than the real version. I think carrots would be a logical second vegetable to be turned into candy. Carrots have already proven themselves in the dessert realm by way of the carrot cake, so it would seem a small leap to the candy world. After that the road may be paved for candy lettuce, candy peas, candy brocoli, or candy turnips? Sure there might be some failures along the way; there will undoubtedly be some bad vegetable candy. However, if we can come up with just one candy that even approaches the goodness of candy corn, i feal that all the failures will be worthwhile and that the world will be a better place.
