Grab Bag Lunch

I got the wrong sandwich at lunch today. When they called my name I knew it had to be the wrong sandwich because I had just handed over my order about 30 seconds before. I fought my way through the K2 lunch crowd, up to the counter and examined the sandwich sitting on top of my order slip. It was cold; my order was supposed to be hot. As I was about to explain the situation I began to think to myself that maybe I would really like this sandwich. It was completely wrapped, so other than knowing that it was cold I really had no idea what was in there. Oh the possibilities! What new and exciting lunch treat might possibly have been handed to me? That and the fact that it was right there in my hand and I wouldn't have to wait any longer convinced me to take the mystery sandwich and call it my own.

I finally went to see Bowling For Columbine this weekend. Can you believe it's still playing at Somerville theatre? Even as I was watching the movie I found myself thinking, "WTF.. is he trying to tell me with these numbers?". How can you even compare the total number of murders between countries without taking into account the difference in population? He tells you the US has 11,000+ gun murders a year while Canada has only a couple hundred. I'm thinking "Well I know Canada has a lot less people than the US... I wonder when he's going to tell us what those numbers really work out to?" Never does. To me this is just such a glaring oversight that it obviously puts the whole work more in the genre of propaganda than documentary. This is a pretty in depth criticism of the movie I was reading this morning.

All it's problems aside, the movie is pretty entertaining and thought provoking. One of the things I thought was really funny were all the news clips in the movie. All that stuff about the "killer bees" and "snake bite" warnings just cracked me up. I honestly can not stand watching news on TV. I can't even remember the last time I've watched because I really just don't care to hear about 90% of the crap.
