How'd They Do That?

I finally learned how they make the yellow first down line on televised football games. I always thought this was an impressive accomplishment and that it must be pretty tricky to do. Well.. if you don't want to read the article I was basically right. There's no simple trick. The process involves a bunch of people and computers. It's actually kind of amzing that they go to so much effort just to put a yellow line on your screen, but I must say it is nice to be able to see that line!

I went hiking with my small group this past weekend to Mount Monadnock. If you believe that website Monadnock is the most climbed mountain in the world! I've heard before that it was the second most climbed behind Mt Fuji in Japan, but according to this website Fuji now has public transportation to the top so Monadnock has surpassed it as the most climbed. This is usually the kind of claim that makes my skeptical spidey sense go nuts but Monadnock is by far the mountain I have climbed most frequently so I can kind of buy it.

I've probably climbed Monadnock 20 times over the years, but this past weekend was the latest in the year I've ever headed up. Due to the cold weather it was also the first time I quit before getting to the top. My group was having a really good time and hiking at a leisurely pace. The weather was brisk but enjoyable until we got above the tree line. At this point we were exposed to a nasty wind and the temperature felt like it immediately dropped at least 15 degrees. After a particularly strong gust, Heather said "that wind hurt my fillings [things in your teeth]". I misheard this comment thinking she had said, "that wind hurt my feelings". I found that pretty dang funny and thought it was an accurate description. I'm gonna use that one when it get cold in Boston!

Misheard song lyrics are funny, but my favorite category of misheard lyrics are songs where you continue to use the misheard lyrics even after discovering the real lyrics because you like your version better (I saw a website with a page of those once, but I couldn't find it right now so if you know of one put it in the comments).
