I went to see The Unlimited Sunshine Tour last night at the Fleet Boston Pavilion. There were 3.5 noteworthy bands that I'll now mention in chronological order.
De La Soul - Awesome! My first live Hip Hop experience and favorite act of the night. Maybe I'm just tired of the old rock and roll bands and format. I had so much fun watching De La. They did Saturday, Me Myself and I, and even called out the Black Sheep guy for Who's the Black Sheep.
Flaming Lips - These guys had a crazy stage show. Weird videos, large animal costumes, fisheye closeups, smoke, disco balls and fake blood, all served as distractions to blah sounding music.
Hackensaw Boys - This is the .5 band because they played between Flaming Lips and Cake. Even though they only played 2 songs they were my #2 favorite of the night. There were 6-8 guys huddled together in a small group that played some tight fast bluegrass tunes. Really got your toes tappin! I checked out their
website today and in addition to the good
sample music, you serious bloggers might want to check out their
journal section. It has some very funny well written stories of life on the road that are well applied to life in general.
Cake- Yeah they were pretty good even though they wasted about 20 minutes before coming out because of some dispute with the venue about whether or not their lame backdrop was a fire hazard.
You've Got to be Kidding
The tylenol email was just a warm up for the email that was just sent out to all employess:
In past years we have typically closed the office early on the Friday before a long weekend. In an effort to save the company some money, as well as to help employees work down their pto balances before December 31st, we have decided to close the office entirely on Friday, August 30th, in anticipation of the Labor Day weekend.
We hope you understand and will appreciate the opportunity to enjoy the extra long weekend. The day will automatically be applied to pto balance so you can leave it blank on your calendar.
Gee thanks! I'm glad that instead of closing early on Friday you will help me work down my pto balance by forcing me to take a day of vacation. Thank you for the 2.5 days of advance notice; I'm sure I'll be able to make some good plans for my vacation time! I do so want to help all the over achievers in the company that have worked up more vacation time than you are allowing them to roll over. Hey, maybe it would be helpful if you scheduled all of our vacation time for us? I mean who wants to go to all the trouble of deciding when to take their vacation? You could even add this to the list of benefits you give to new employess!
Life Imitating Dilbert
Exhibit A (The actual contents of an email distributed to everyone at work this morning):
I have moved the Tylenol caplets into the mailroom on the office supply shelf. Because some people have been taking more than they need.

I'm Saaaaaaaaiiiling!
I went up to lake Winnipesaukee this weekend for a Park Street retreat. Winnipesaukee is a great big lake in New Hampshire that you may have seen in the movie What About Bob. The retreat was a good time with around 170 people mostly in the 20 something age range. We had a speaker who talked about keeping your "fire alive", or something like that. Sounds kind of cheesy and cliche, but I thought she was good and enjoyed her speaking. I met some interesting people including a guy who had completed 4 or 5 weeks of Navy Seal training, Neville from the
Seychelles Islands, and two girls who were getting ready to go on a year long sailing trip in the south pacific. It was a little cloudy and rainy Saturday, but I still had a good time and got to play some soccer, volleyball, and go swimming in the Lake!
