Large Asteroid Barely Misses Earth

A large asteroid the size of a soccer field just missed hitting earth this past Monday. Well.. it was 75,000 miles away (closer than the moon) and in "space" terms that is close.

The asteroid was spotted by the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) program 3 days after it passed us by. The goal of this program is to track big rocks flying through space. I guess the hope is we could evacuate people away from a crash site or pull some Armagedon junk if we knew we were gonna get hit.

So would they tell us if we were gonna get smashed tomorrow? Would you want to know? Well just to warn you, according to some guy in the article there is a 1 in 100,000 chance that the same rock will swing around and tag us in the 2061. That's only 59 years from now; live like you mean it.

Props to US

The ball did not bounce quite right for the US today, but I thought they played a great game against Germany. The US had plenty of chances to score and I think Germany felt lucky to come away with a win on 1 goal. Props to the US team who overachieved and played like they thought they could win. I hope they get some praise and attention back here in the states and that US soccer will continue to rise in popularity and reputation! Watch out world; it is only a matter of time before we dominate you.

In other soccer news my new Wed night team, Pete's Electronics, won our first game 5-2. I would like to personally dedicate my season with Pete's to honor the US 2002 World Cup Soccer team.

Last Page

I am having some Netscape rage at work right now so I think I need to take a break and make a post.

I took the T home from Park Street last night and happened to notice two passengers sitting across from me both reading books. That's not strange, but I did notice that they were both on about the last page of their books. I also noticed that one of the two readers was a very attractive female. Since the other reader was an average joe I focused my attention on the pretty girl reader. I knew she was on the last page caus i saw her check ahead and she hit the library card slot. It must've been a good book because when we pulled into Davis she was still reading that page as she left the train. She was still reading the page up the escalator and then we parted ways. Good bye pretty girl. I wonder what book you were reading?

Robo Cup

Robots are cool. Soccer is cool. Robots playing soccer is cool! Someone in this article thinks that robot soccer players will beat the real life world champions by 2050. I know that in 50 years technology can make huge leaps, but I still feel like that's kind of a stretch. It would be cool to watch, but it would hurt to get elbowed by a robot!

USA !!!!!!

MC Bride on the microphone and wonder kid Donovan gettin' the job done in style.

In other soccer news "Your Momma", scored a 2-1 victory yesterday. I was pumped to play after a couple weeks of World Cup watching; eager to duplicate the moves I've been studying. Unfortunately its not that easy to do and I blew my best goal scoring chance. One of my teamates sent in a hard cross that the keeper came out and got his hands on. He didn't catch it clean and sent the ball floating right in front of me. I was crashing the net looking for such an opportunity, but had to act fast before the keeper reclaimed the ball. I jumped to meet the ball and got a clean head on it with nothing but empty net in front of me. I think my jumping up to head the ball gave me too much "up" momentum and my header sailed over the goal. It's amazing because I really have no ups, so the fact that I jumped and headed the ball in the air is an incredible act of timing. I must repeat 100 times.. "Always aim your headers down when you're putting them on goal!!"
