I hit the wall in my book, The Elegant Universe, last night. Apparently for string theory to be correct it requires more than our normal 4 dimensions (3 spacial and one time). String theory actually requires at least 10 dimensions (9 spatial and one time?)! The extra dimensions are supposed to be so small that we can not detect them and yet large enough to affect the vibration of "a string". I guess it all works out if you know the math.
The coolest thing I read about was the Large Hadron Collider. It's this huge particle collider that is being built in Switzerland. It will be by far the most powerful collider ever built, accelerating protons to just under the speed of light. Just reading about the
engineering issues involved is incredibly amazing. One of the big hopes is that the accelerator will be powerful enough to discover super symetric particles proving the super symetric property of the universe.
To activate: squeeze a generous dollop into warm running water or lather directly onto skin. Slip into the water and into gladiator mode. Instantly transformed, you are unstoppable. Emerge standing a little taller, and with a taste for conquest. It's not magic; it just works.

Free Bananas!
This monkey was elected mayor based on his platform of, "free bananas for school children". How can you argue with free bananas? Can somebody please get the school children some bananas?
