Goverment For The People..by DRS1

MLK is on jury duty today, so drs will be your blogger.

Margaret and I just watched V for Vendetta this week (thanks to M's new NetFlix subscription). I mostly enjoyed the movie and it reminded me that "People should not fear their government, their government should fear the people"

Now I usually don't keep abreast of the latest political developments, but I have noticed that Congress recently passed a law aimed at shutting down some internet gambling sites. As a responsible online poker player that makes me mad! So mad that I even thought about writing my Congressman (yeah.. you better be scared government)! Sure gambling is addictive and a big problem for many people, but why allow so many forms of the vice and then pick on the internet crowd? This just feeds my Libertarian tendencies.

In other political news that interests me.. Question 1 "Should Massachusetts allow grocery stores to sell wine". Yes, believe it or not people who don't live in Ma, grocery stores up here can't sell any alcohol. Question 1 would let them sell "wine", not to be confused with beer or liquor. The only reason I can see to vote against this thing, is to protect the small business owner. Only its is not like you're protecting some mom and pop hardware store... it's the corner liquor store! Is anyone out there against Question 1?

Times, They Are A-Changin' by MLK1

Everywhere I turn these days, I see weddings. It's like they're following me. This past weekend, we were at a gorgeous wedding in Maine and bought the local weekend paper. Two of the eight comic strips featured that day were about weddings.

And that got me to thinking... It's a miracle to me that people were able to actually pull off getting married before the internet. Every article I've read so far recommends online guest list managers, searching for caterers online, and reading reviews posted about florists. I have downloaded song lists from bands, asked for bids from potential reception sites, and blogged about the wedding. Makes me wonder how my parents did it.

And lucky for DRS1, we're going home this weekend to talk to both sets of parents about just that.
