When things look bad, and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb mad dog mean. Cause if you lose your head and you give up, then you neither live nor win, that's just the way it is. - Josey Wales
My indoor soccer team struggled through a frustrating season going 0-8. We were last place in a 12 team league and the only team to be in the 0 for's. Last night, however, we took the final step in a remarkable comeback, that left us at the top of the loser bracket! In convincing back to back wins, we breezed through the loser bracket playoffs, to proudly claim the loser bracket championship!

Castles Made Of Sand Slip Into the Sea, Eventually
I Kings 1:1-2 When King David was old and well advanced in years, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him. So his servants said to him, "Let us look for a young virgin to attend the king and take care of him. She can lie beside him so that our lord the king may keep warm."
It's good to be king!
My mom was in town this weekend and we went to visit an old couple that used to go to my church back home. They now live in a retirement home up here in Mass. The woman is in great shape. She gets around pretty well and her mind is razor sharp. Unfortunately her husband is not doing as well. He has alzheimer's disease and on top of that can barely shuffle around. When I went down into the alzheimer's wing of the home, it was a sobering experience. I can't think of anything much more depressing than to see a room full of people who are just shells of their former selves. I guess there are worse things, that cause actual physical suffering, but it's pretty sad nonetheless.
Ultimately we really don't have much control. Will you get old like David and have servants go and fetch virgins for you to snuggle up with when you are cold? Will you get to sit back and watch the Sox, and tell stories about how they came soo close to beating the Yankees in '04? Will the end be quick or will you wilt and deteriorate, long and slow? Who can say? It's life and barring accidents it's the natural progression that awaits us all. When I see people dealing with these things I realize I've been soo sheltered so far. I haven't had to deal with anything really tough yet. I only hope I'm ready when it comes.
