Isaiah 1:18 - "...Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;..."
Isaiah did not live in Boston. If he had lived in Boston this winter he almost certainly would have chosen different words for this verse because the snow here is dirty! Boston snow, especially this winter, does not conjure up any images of purity or cleanliness for me. The snow here is rough, crusted and icy. It is black with the gook and grime of the city. It mocks my memory of sweet fresh snow that brings the joy of cancelled school and winter fun. I'm sure the eskimos have a word for this kind of black, evil snow and I bet that word is a swear!
