Just as I was about to leave the house on Sat night to go to my 11:15 PM indoor soccer game I noticed both the cats chasing something around. I peeked over and saw that they had found a mouse and were very excited about this discovery. I was proud of the cats for catching a mouse and was almost thinking I should just leave and let them enjoy playing with their new toy. The thought of a dead mouse being left hidden somewhere did not sit well though, and the poor mouse didn't look like he was doin' so good, so I decided I'd better take care of it. I went to get a bag for the mouse and while I was gone Ash picked the thing up and began running around the apartment with it. Whenever I got close Ash would literally start growling, mouse in mouth, and then run off again. I finally got ahold of Ash and had to pick her up to get her to drop the mouse.
I took the mouse in bag outside to put in the trash, but I knew the thing was still alive and I couldn't bring myself to just let it slowly die. I had to perform a mercy killing. I brought out a boot and with three swift thumps did the deed. The funny/sad/disturbing thing about this is that before I lay the smack down on the mouse all I could think about was the Sopranos and how I felt like I was performing a hit... "So little mouse, you thought no one would suspect you for a rat??? Well take this bam, bam, bam... That's what I thought!"
